The rock of love?

BVI Wedding Planners & Consultants is a small company based in Tortola with the romantic brief of arranging weddings in some of the most striking and beautiful scenery in the Caribbean, the spectacular islands and cays of the British Virgin Islands. The company is headed up by Heather Anderson, who has lived in the BVI since 1974. With over thirty years of knowledge and contacts in the BVI, she knows all the best locations and all the best providers throughout the islands, enabling her to advise you about how best to plan your wedding in the BVI and then putting the whole ceremony and celebration together for you.

Heather herself is an American who has lived in the Virgin Islands for the whole of her life. She was brought up in the USVI and then in 1974 she moved to the BVI, where she now has her own family with two sons and a daughter. As an American she understands completely what it is that you will be looking for in your wedding and the importance of getting the details absolutely right. And she has long experience of it too. Since setting up in business in 1997 she has organised around 200 weddings. She organises everything herself on a one-on-one basis, pulling in the skills of various professionals when needed. She has call on the island’s best photographers and videographers, the best flower-arrangers and cake-makers, musicians, yachts and just about anything else you might need.

Each wedding organised by Heather is completely personalised. It is not a standard package. Instead it is tailored to you and your requirements. She will liaise closely with you to make sure that your plans are realistic and then she will organise everything for you, enabling you not to worry about a thing and to enjoy your holiday instead. These will include booking a priest/pastor, fulfilling the regulations (see below) and booking the venue. She can advise about and book accommodation for you if requested and arrange the rehearsal dinner. Then of course she will oversee the wedding itself - the ceremony, the reception and your ‘going away’, which might be on anything from a donkey to a superyacht. Importantly, Heather only ever takes on one wedding at a particular day in order not to dilute her attention.

The BVI are some of the most stunning islands in the Caribbean and of course they have some excellent locations in which to hold a ceremony. You might choose to get married on the beach. This can be as romantic and castaway as you like – on a secluded strip of sand – or it can be lively, in one of the BVI’s many excellent beach bars. Or you could choose a yacht. Heather can find exactly the yacht that will suit you best, from a swanky motorcruiser to a catamaran. She also knows the best villas on island for weddings, with a romantic setting for the ceremony itself and space for the reception afterwards. And of course if you are feeling a little more traditional then it is quite possible to hold a ceremony in a church.

Wedding Themes & Locations
With such beautiful scenery, its classic palm-backed beaches and superb open seascapes, there are some wonderful locations in the BVI where you can conduct your wedding ceremony, but Heather can suggest a number of creative wedding ideas as well. And if you have your own ideas then she is happy to help you arrange anything that you would like.

THEMES

BVI Beach weddings
If you want a quiet wedding you might want dinner for just the two of you on the beach. Heather can arrange a candle-let dinner on an isolated beach.

You could have a windsurfing honeymoon, in which you join a trip arranged by Hi-Ho, the Tortola windsurf company. You spend the week on a catamaran visiting the different islands and testing out all the latest equipment.

Alternatively you can make it a regular BVI sailing trip, joining a sailing cruise around the islands, or chartering your own yacht for the two of you, with or without a skipper or crew for your wedding and also your honeymoon if you wish.

LOCATIONS
Tortola has some excellent beaches, particularly along its northern shoreline. Or you can go even more remote, on the beaches of other small islands, particularly Virgin Gorda and Jost van Dyke. Heather will set up marquees as required, and arrange all the drinks and food, for a dinner for two or a reception for a hundred. Here are some sample locations

Cane Garden Bay
A classic, west facing beach backed by palms. Ever-lively, with a string of beach bars. Ideal for a late afternoon wedding, with a view through the yachts at anchor to the sunset.

Long Bay Beach
A lovely strip of sand with a dramatic, pyramid hill backdrop and the facilities of a hotel in the bay.

Trellis Bay (Beef Island)
A pretty bay on Beef Island (reached by bridge from Tortola). Lots of activity, yachts, windsurfing and bars and restaurants

Josiah’s Bay
A secluded bay (with lively waves), remote in the North-east of the island.

Lambert Beach
A similarly remote North-east bay, with the facilities of a small hotel

Nanny Cay
On the southern shore of Tortola, a nice setting under the palms with all the facilities of a hotel and marina nearby.

Virgin Gorda
There are plenty of possibilities on the remote beaches of Virgin Gorda. The Baths are world famous and would make a spectacular backdrop.

Jost van Dyke
Lovely, dozy Jost has quiet beaches, lively beaches, beach bars to match and an utterly charming Methodist church.

Legal Requirements
You will need to be in the British Virgin Islands for at least three (3) days before you get married. You can apply for a licence on your day of arrival at the Attorney General's Office, situated on the second floor of the Central Administration Complex, Road Town, Tortola.

The requirements are:
US$110 (in BVI postage stamps) for a special licence if you are resident in The BVI for 3 days before your wedding.

US$50 (in BVI postage stamps) for a special licence if you apply at least 15 days and plan to be resident for at least that period of time before the wedding.

Your passport as proof of identity and arrival date in BVI

Proof of marital status (certified or original copies of decree absolute for divorced spouses or death certificate for deceased spouses)

Two witnesses needed

a) for signing the licence application and

b) to be present at the marriage ceremony (witnesses need not be the same for both exercises, persons in The BVI may be selected as witnesses)

Having applied for the licence, you go to the Registrar General's Office to schedule an appointment for the date and time you propose to be married. The Registrar General's Chamber office is located in Road Town, upstairs of Burhym Electrical. However, we recommend that the Registrar is booked well in advance and this can be done by BVI Wedding Planners.
