St Vincent and Grenadines has a good range of bars, many of which take advantage of the physical beauty of the islands and are set along the various waterfronts and beaches on the islands. As you would expect in a fairly undeveloped series of islands with a strong sailing industry, the bars are almost all informal and most of them see a nice mix of islanders and visitors. Nightlife tends to centre around the bars as there are not many notable discotheques at the moment.
St Vincent has a busy strip at Villa, in the tourist heartland to the east of Kingstown, where a handful of bars stand shoulder to shoulder along the picturesque waterfront. Elsewhere on the 'Mainland' the bars are mainly local, as is the entertainment. Actually there is not even that much entertainment in Kingstown itself at the moment. In the country you will find mainly local rum shops, though the occasional jump-up will be held in the towns and villages.
In Bequia there is a string of delightful hangouts on the Belmont waterfront in Admiralty Bay, bar after bar with a really easy atmosphere, peopled by hotel and villa guests and by yachties parked in the bay as well as the Bequians themselves. Each bar has its distinct character and usually a special night with entertainment.
On Mustique many people entertain in their houses, but the couple of public areas can get very lively on their special nights and sometimes spontaneously.
There are two distinct halves to Canouan. The area around Charlestown in the south sees a mix of locals with yachtsmen and general travellers. The north of the island, where you will find the Raffles Hotel, has a very different feel to it as it is effectively private. Here you will find a beach bar, but also a couple of elegant bars, including one in the casino.
Mayreau is very quiet except on Saturday evenings and over national festivities, when all the stereo systems in the village compete with one another to play the loudest. Union Island has a number of bars along the main street and the waterfront in Clifton. The nightlife is good on the island.
The private islands, Palm Island and Petit St Vincent, fundamentally want to keep their islands reserved for their guests, but they have provision for sailors that come off the yachts. On Palm Island the Sunset Bar is at the bottom end of Casuarina beach. PSV allows people to visit its main bar.
