Moon Dance Cliffs is an extremely comfortable small all-inclusive hotel tucked away on the Negril cliffs in the far west of Jamaica. Set in five acres, it is laid out in a U-shape of two-storey buildings with slender columns and shallow pitched West Indian roofs. Inside, there is a mix of rooms, suites and villas, all of which look onto the Caribbean Sea. They enclose an activity lawn and the meandering, split-level pool, and then beyond, on the cliff edge, Annie’s Restaurant and their wedding gazebo. While Moon Dance is relatively small (certainly by the standards of many Jamaican hotels), it has an upbeat atmosphere, with plenty of daytime activities, including a full service spa, and entertainment in the evenings.

Beach & Swimming
Set on the Negril ‘cliffs’, Moon Dance is not actually on the beach. If you want to visit Negril Beach though, it is not that far away and there are plenty of places (beach bars and other hotels) where that you can base yourself for the day. It is an active strip with plenty of sports and of course the sea is excellent for swimming. Transport is arranged by the hotel each day.

You may find however, that you do not feel the need to go to the beach. And anyway, with all the activities on offer at Moon Dance Cliffs, there will be plenty to keep you busy. The swimming beneath the cliffs at the hotel is excellent. The water is usually crystalline clear and there is good marine life. There are platforms from which you can swim and snorkel (and jump into the water too if that’s your thing).

There is a large (5000sq ft) meandering swimming pool at Moon Dance Cliffs. It is split level with waterfalls and rivers between sections and it has a swim up bar. It is surrounded by lounging space on terraces and islands, where there are also gazebos and hammocks for some shade. You can also take the loungers out onto the cliff edge.

Locality
Moon Dance Cliffs is in the southern section of Negril, on the cliffs beyond the lighthouse (the western point of Jamaica), so it is quite quiet and secluded, for the moment at least. The ‘town’ of Negril, which actually stretches along the shorelines for more than ten miles, divides quite neatly into two halves, both of which have their own character and different things to recommend them.

The better known half is ‘Seven Mile Beach’ (actually five miles unless you include Bloody Bay to the north), which is backed almost entirely with hotels, bars and other businesses including watersports. There are several places, both independent bars (try Margaritaville, for instance) and restaurants attached to a hotel, where you can base yourself for the day. Most do not offer watersports, but it is usually not far to wander along the sand to find a concessionaire. For a slightly more formal dinner you can try Kuyaba or Norma’s and for live music try Alfreds and Bourbon Beach.

The other half of the town is the section of cliffs to the south of the roundabout. This is called ‘the West End’ and the bars here are equally as famous in their way as those on the beach and so there is a handful of good places to visit. Rick’s is very well known but it sees bus tours and so you might want to try somewhere quieter like the LTU Pub. To dine out on the cliffs try the Rockhouse or the Hungry Lion.

Meet & Greet
Moon Dance Cliffs rates include return transfers from Sangster International Airport at Montego Bay (this is the airport at which to arrive rather than Kingston). The transfer takes approximately 90 minutes. Alternatively, if you would prefer to have private limousine transfers and be taken care of from the minute you arrive at the airport, with a range of services that can include a personal Concierge Service, this is offered by
Glamour DMC.

If you are booking through a travel organiser, it is likely that their representative will be at the airport to meet you. This service and your return airport transfers should be included in the cost of your holiday. Please check at the time of booking.

Getting Around
You may well want to hire a car for a few days to explore Jamaica, which is an exceptionally beautiful island. Rental is easily arranged through your travel organiser or through the resort and vehicles can be picked up and returned at the airport if you wish or collected from the property at a pre-arranged time (there may be a drop-off charge). It is fairly normal to rent cars with a driver in Jamaica so that is also an option. Or Reception will happily arrange a taxi for the day for a tour.

Be aware that during the winter season there can be a shortage of rental cars in Jamaica and so you are advised to book early. Also book early if you want a car for a week or more because pre-booked rates can be better.
