Port St Charles is a residential waterfront enclave set around a yacht marina near Speightstown on the West Coast of Barbados. It has around 150 extremely comfortable residences of various sizes that encircle a lagoon and curl around onto a lovely section of beach. They are individually furnished to a very high standard, with marble floors, full kitchens, good outside space and swimming pools or Jacuzzis. And there are good central facilities too around the marina’s Grand and Petit Canals, including a pool and bar, a gym, beauty salon, tennis courts, even mega yacht berths, as well as the new Club, set just offshore, with its lunchtime restaurant, pool and bar. As a gated community around the only marina on Barbados, set quite far north on the prestigious West Coast, Port St Charles has a secluded and discernible club feel that attracts a small legion of extremely private wealthy owners. It also has one of the island’s best restaurants, La Mer.

Beach & Swimming
There are two superb white sand beaches (on either side of the lagoon entrance) at Port St Charles, the smaller more northerly of which is popular with children. The main beach is a glorious 1300ft stretch of broad sand running in front of the beachfront apartments. Both beaches are served by the water taxi and beach chairs are provided. Snorkelling gear and kayaks are available for guests to use. A popular water activity is swimming with Port St Charles’ family of resident turtles.
There are two swimming pools. One, located on the Sunset Isle within the main lagoon along the Grand Canal, has a sun terrace plus sundeck and docking area. There is a large freeform infinity edge swimming pool with swim-up bar and a small man-made bay to give access to the lagoon for swimming. The second, newer swimming pool is located on the man-made island at the Port St Charles Club. This infinity edge pool faces the mega yacht dock and also has a swim-up bar. A large area of sundeck has docking facilities plus entry steps into the sea. Good swimmers can easily swim across to the North Beach. |

Sports & Recreation
Port St Charles has two floodlit tennis courts which can be used by guests free of charge. Tennis balls are available for purchase and a limited number of rackets are for loan. There is also an air-conditioned, fully equipped fitness centre which is available for guests 24hrs a day. It features cardio-vascular equipment, weight machines and free weights. Personal trainers are available on request. A beauty salon offers massage and other treatments. Watersports can be arranged and snorkelling equipment and kayaks are available for guests’ use.
The nearest golf course is at Royal Westmoreland about 15 minutes drive away, which has some tee times open to outsiders in the mid morning. Otherwise about 20 minutes away there are two courses open to the public at Sandy Lane, which also has tennis courts. For tennis you could also try Sugar Hill just below Royal Westmoreland. |

Staff
Daily hotel-style housekeeping, but including personal laundry (not ironing, which is available for an additional charge). All units are equipped with a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board for guests’ own use. Cooks can be arranged on request for an additional charge of US$15 per hour. Baby sitting is also available on request at US$20 per hour. |

Accommodation
All of the units for rental at Port St Charles are fully air-conditioned, have marble tile en suite bathrooms, fully equipped granite topped kitchens and in the case of the beach front apartments, two extensive terraces or verandas. In addition the ground floor apartments have their own swimming pools set within tropical gardens, and the upper floors have the added attraction of their own roof decks with wet bar, Jacuzzi tubs and spectacular coastal views. Apartments and villas have cable television, VCR, CD system and air-conditioned bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. Villas are individually furnished to a very high standard. |

Useful Hints
A complimentary welcome food pack of basic supplies will be placed in your villa/apartment for your arrival. It includes items to cover breakfast the next morning such as bacon, eggs, cereal, and milk plus beer, wine and soft drinks. If you require a more substantial supply of groceries please ask your travel organiser or (if booking direct) Bajan Services and they can be stocked for your arrival, at additional cost. If you require the services of a cook and would like to have a welcome meal prepared for your arrival, the cost will be US$15 per hour. Please note that a 5% service charge plus VAT will be added to your shopping bills should you utilise the provisioning service. Prepayment for any additional provisional groceries should be made when sending the final balance for the villa. Please see here for Bajan Services general grocery pack list with approximate prices.
Miscellaneous items such as airport transfers, extra beds and baby equipment are also payable in advance (see here for a price list). In the event that Bajan Services can only provide an estimated cost for customized shopping lists, or where the final payment for your villa has been made prior to other requests, you will be required to complete a credit card authorization form.
Rental rates for villas/private apartments in Barbados do not include the normal 10% service charge in lieu of ‘tips’. Instead you should give a gratuity direct to the staff. This is at your discretion but should be appropriate for the level of service received. You will find advice in the guest information book in your rental property. |

How to Book
If you wish to book direct, reservations should be made through the local managing agents, Bajan Services Ltd. You will need to send a deposit of 25% of the total rental fee (50% for Christmas/New Year bookings) to confirm a reservation. Payment of the remaining 75% is required 30 days prior your arrival, as is payment for groceries, transfers and baby equipment. If you are booking within 30 days of your arrival, full payment must be made to secure the booking. Locality
Port St Charles is located just north of Speightstown, next door to Almond Beach Village. The centre of Speightstown, the island’s second largest town, is within a reasonable walking distance and takes around 15 minutes (you can take the beach route past Almond Beach Village or walk along the road) or just a couple of minutes by car. Once known as Little Bristol because of connections to Bristol on the west coast of England, Speightstown still has a feel of old time Barbados about it. On the seafront at the centre of town you will find the newly renovated fish market and there are often fruit and vegetable sellers known as “hucksters” selling at the road side. There are also a couple of local restaurants and bars and a smattering of shops, including a reasonably well stocked supermarket. The nearest good restaurants to the south are Mango's by the Sea, on the waterfront in Speightstown, and The Terrace at Cobblers Cove Hotel just beyond the town. The celeb favourite Lone Star about 10 minutes away. Heading north there is the Fish Pot at Little Good Harbour, just a couple of minutes away by car.
A simple supper in one of the local fishing villages has become a popular option for a Friday or Saturday night out. You will find small wooden fish stalls interspersed with make-shift bars right on the beach at the side of the road, or an occasional rustic dining area perched above the sea. Try the villages in the north of St Peter or in St Lucy, say Shermans or Half Moon Fort. Local fishing boats are still built in this area and can be seen under construction along the road side. |

Meet & Greet
If you are booking direct, Bajan Services Ltd will arrange for their airport representative from Caribbean Club to welcome you (no charge) before you go through Immigration and then direct you to your transfer vehicle. Your arrival transfer to Port St Charles is included in your rental cost, so you will need to make arrangements for your return transfer with Bajan Services Ltd, which can be done at the time of booking and and should be paid for in advance with the final payment for your villa. If you are travelling with a tour operator/wholesaler then you will be met at the airport by your representative who will assist with your transfers which should also include your return trip. Airport transfers take approximately 1 hour either way, maybe longer depending on traffic conditions. |

Getting Around
A complimentary water taxi is available (currently 9am to 9pm on Mon & Sun and 8am to 10pm from Tue-Sat) to to ferry guests from within the marina to the pool, beach and the beach club facilities. Alternatively you might find that a hired car is more convenient and as many of the apartments are a good few minutes walk to the front Lobby, La Mer restaurant and around to the beach club, a rental car is strongly recommended (for all villa holidays). Parking bays are located by the apartments. A car will be very useful if you want to dine out at night or do lots of sightseeing and particularly when it comes to shopping for groceries. Book your car hire via your travel organiser or direct with Stoutes Car Rentals and ask for your vehicle to be delivered to the property approximately 3 hours after your scheduled time of arrival on Barbados or the following morning. Vehicles can be returned at the airport or be collected from the property at a pre-arranged time on your departure day. |
