The inns give some variety. A couple, Cooper Island and Marina Cay, are on their own island, others are equally remote, hidden away on a less populated island, such as the Anegada Reef Club or Sand Castles on dozy Jost van Dyke. On Tortola there is a gem in the Sugar Mill, but most of the small hotels on the island are attached to the marinas on the southern coastline.

A well-priced, small waterfront hotel on Tortola’s northern shore, set in a brightly painted, modern building. Sebastian’s has 34 comfortable rooms and apartments on a good beach. The Apple Bay community has an easy atmosphere and some good restaurants and bars, including Bomba’s.
