Jamaica / Boutique/Small Hotels & Inns

By James Henderson

In many ways the inns and small hotels of Jamaica are the unsung heroes. Many of them have so much character and individual island style, but while the large hotels have been able to market themselves internationally, the smaller hotels find it very hard to make themselves known. It is well worth seeking them out, because some of them rate as the coolest places to stay in the whole of the Caribbean.

While some of the small hotels and inns in Jamaica are set on the beach, this is not universal. Instead they may have an equally attractive location in the mountains or on a forested hillside. In Negril there is a delightful group of small hotels in superb settings on the cliffs of the West End (as well as several on the beach). Levels of service may also vary in the smaller hotels, but they are very likely to offer a friendly reception, with an excellent atmosphere for an easy-going stay.
