St Eustatius / Accommodation
St Eustatius has an acute shortage of decent places where visitors can stay. While there are some well-run and attractive properties on the island, others fall below our acceptable standards. For a complete listing contact the St Eustatius Tourist Office in Oranjestad Upper Town, t 318 2433 (closed weekends). Most accommodation is in or near Oranjestad and properties are open year-round. If you want the best, book early.
B&B/Guest House
There are no bed and breakfast options on St Eustatius but there is one well-established guesthouse.
Country Inn, Concordia - Close to the airport, this is a row of six air-conditioned rooms set beside the spotless home of Iris Pompier. Wifi is included and breakfast is available in a cheerful dining room. Guests can also relax in her courtyard and garden.
Boutique/Small Hotel & Inn
St Eustatius has a shortage of good hotels and there are only 75 rooms available on the island. Currently we can only recommend one property in this category. As a general rule, breakfast and wifi is normally included in room rates, which are subject to a government hotel tax of 7%. A service charge of 10-15% may also be applied to your bill.
The Old Gin House, Oranjestad Lower Town - Based around a waterfront 18th-century brick building that once housed a cotton gin, this attractive Dutch-run hotel has 14 rooms and two suites looking onto tropical gardens, plus two oceanfront rooms, a pool and bar.
Camping & Eco Resort
There is one campsite, the Congo Preserve in Mansion Road, t 526 5027, but St Eustatius has no eco-resort.
Cottages & Apartments
Apart from the property recommended below, there are few cottages and apartments to rent on St Eustatius as they are usually taken on long lets by visiting workers or students. To see what else might be available, contact the St Eustatius Tourist Office in Oranjestad Upper Town, t 318 2433 (closed weekends).
Statia Lodge, White Wall - A tranquil, Swiss-owned collection of nine white wooden cottages set on a grassy slope with fine ocean views towards St Kitts. The one and two-bedroom units have an Asian simplicity, plus there's a main reception house with a pool.
