St Lucia / All-Inclusive

By Sara Macefield

St Lucia is one of the most established islands for all-inclusive resorts, attracting the attention of the Caribbean’s major chains which have properties here, and a number of smaller individual hotels.

They are mainly located in the north of the island, though only a few stand out from the crowd, offering their own distinct flavour rather than the uniform style that tends to be associated with such resorts.

While it undoubtedly brings lower prices, the all-inclusive concept is often criticised for depriving travellers of an authentic experience of the destination and denying local bars and restaurants potential custom.

However some properties have forged partnerships with local restaurants to encourage “dine-around” programmes, and brought local artisans on to their properties to showcase their wares to guests.

Adding excursions into St Lucia all-inclusive plans has also meant that guests, at least, get to experience the island.
