Trinidad / Eco Resort/Camping
Trinidad is an urban-centric country of varied habitats and biodiversity derived from continental South America, coupled with extraordinary birdlife, have given rise to a nascent nature tourism and a handful of prime hinterland bases.
Trinidad has no organised campsites as such but camping is a popular local pastime at Easter, partly because of the extra security afforded by numbers on beach sites at Columbus Bay, Manzanilla, Mayaro and closer to Port of Spain at Maracas, Tyrico and Las Cuevas which need a permit from the Tourism Development Authority. Other sites exist at Vessigny, Chagville and the Maracas waterfall with forest pitches by the Marianne River outfall at Blanchiseusse. As ever, security is paramount, preparation and awareness the keynotes.
