Bermuda / Beach Life
There are more than 30 beaches around the coast of Bermuda, each with fantastic pink sand and clear azure waters. A good range of activities is available, including snorkelling and kayaking as well as some body surfing. A few public beaches have snack bars selling drinks and local food. Resorts with private beach access often have their own lifeguard, changing facilities and restrooms. Be aware that outside the summer tourism season the sea will be quite cold.
Below is a selection of the best Bermuda beaches.
Horseshoe Bay Beach, Southampton Parish - The most famous public beach on Bermuda. Its long, sweeping crescent of pink sand makes it a popular choice and it can get very busy with cruise ship passengers. The nearby Beach House offers snacks, rentals and changing facilities. There are life guards on duty during the summer months from 10am to 6pm and it should be noted that rip currents often occur.
West Whale Bay Beach, Southampton Parish - A good strip of sand backed by a large grassy area. Popular with the locals for shore fishing. In April there is a chance to see humpback whales migrating north towards their feeding grounds.
Astwood Cove, Warwick Parish - Nestled under steep cliffs, Astwood Cove is a remote retreat away from the hustle and bustle of Hamilton. There is calm and shallow water and soft sand, but there are no facilities, so take any food and drink that you will need.
Jobson’s Cove, Warwick Parish - Small and sheltered but stunning cove off South Road. Clear shallow waters and pink sand, a perfect place for children to snorkel.
Chaplin Bay, Warwick Parish - Small, quiet beach with delightful pink sand, a perfect place to unwind in seclusion. There are restrooms but no other facilities, though Horseshoe Bay is only a half mile walk.
Warwick Long Bay, Warwick Parish - A stunning stretch of uninterrupted pink sand backed with scrubland. Open and exposed to southerly winds but the waves are generally calm due to the nearby reef. Public restrooms available.
Tobacco Bay Beach, St George’s Parish - Great bay to snorkel and admire the reef fish. Equipment for rental and a snack bar, can get busy at times. Interesting limestone formations off the shoreline.
Elbow Beach, Paget Parish - A very popular swimming beach off South Shore Road. Mile-long expanse of pink sand and calm waters sheltered by a line of coral reefs. Part of the beach is private and the pubic section has its own access by way of Tribe Road 4b.
