Dominica / Watersports
Offshore watersports beyond the hugely important scuba diving are very low-key and confined to the west coast where fairly equable sea conditions allow around Prince Rupert Bay, Portsmouth and Soufriere-Scotts Head.
Kitesurfing has not yet taken off but windsurfing and kayaking are possible through a handful of operators:
Cobra Tours, Portsmouth - Offer windsurfing, bodyboarding, kayaking and a host of other activities out of Portsmouth; Andrew 'Cobra' O’Brien has lived in the area all his life and is a reliable operator.
Wave Dancer Watersports, Picard - Open daily on Coconut Beach near Portsmouth for windsurfing, Hobie Cats, kayaking and water-skiing; tuition available, kayak around the point to the beautiful ‘secret beach’ cove.
Nature Island Dive, Soufriere - It rents out double seater kayaks by the hour, half day or full day.
Warmmae L’etang Group - A collective of local residents around Laudat with Government assistance, run guided boating and kayaking on the Freshwater Lake in the interior; beware the weather conditions in what is a notorious location.
