Grenada & Carriacou / Beach Life

By Jane Anderson

Grenada’s mountainous interior has resulted in the formation of many small bays and inlets which make beach life here a very intimate experience with plenty of opportunity to find a secluded bay for a picnic, a spot of snorkelling or a bit of beachcombing. But of course there is one major stretch of sand that much of the island’s beach life revolves around. Grand Anse offers two miles of golden sand just south of the capital, St George’s and is the place most visitors come to sunbathe and swim. It’s home to some of the island’s best known resorts and there are plenty of beach bars and restaurants to keep you there all day along with a couple of dive operators, and boat excursion companies offering a range of trips including a dolphin watching cruise.

Carriacou and Petite Martinique still have wild secluded beaches only accessible by a short hike or by boat such as Anse La Roche, though of course, these days you might just see a cruise ship or two ready to send tenders ashore.
