Saba / Beach Life
Saba is a steep volcanic island that rears out of the sea dramatically and has no beaches worthy of the name. You can, however, relax by the waves at a few spots around the island. Well’s Bay is the principal place to snorkel from the shore, however for the most rewarding experience it is better to book a trip with one of Saba's dive operators. Where you go will depend on conditions but popular sites include Torrens Point, Hot Springs and Ladder Labyrinth. There are no beach bars, kitesurfing, windsurfing or any watersports on Saba. The entire coastline is protected by the Saba National Marine Park and water-skis and jet-skis are not permitted.
Below is a selection of the best beaches on Saba.
Well's Bay - The nearest thing to a beach on Saba is at Well's Bay on the sheltered northwest coast. The locals like to describe this as a “wandering beach” because it comes and goes depending on the sea and hurricane conditions. Unfortunately its black volcanic sands have now been absent without leave for two years, so don't get too hopeful.
Cove Bay - There are plans to create an artificial beach at Cove Bay, near the airport, using white sand imported from St Maarten. The rocky pools here are a popular spot for swimming, however access to this area may be restricted due to construction work.
