St Martin/St Maarten / Kitesurfing/Windsurfing
If you like to ride the waves head over to the east coast of St Martin where there are opportunities at Orient Beach and the quieter Baie de l'Embouchure. The latter is inside La Réserve Naturelle de Saint-Martin so kitesurfing is not permitted there. December to March is the best time for a ride, but if the wind's not there you can jump on a paddleboard or go surfing. The SXM Challenge windsurfing competition takes place in March.
St Martin
Wind-Adventures, Orient Beach - The waters here are busy but this is a fun spot to book some expert windsurfing or kitesurfing lessons – the latter take place at nearby Green Cay island.
Windy Reef, Le Galion Beach - A well-established French-run operation offering windsurfing lessons and rental. The safe, reef-protected waters here make this a good spot for beginners. Kitesurfing can be arranged at nearby locations.
