Trinidad / Beach Life

Trinidad is not a sun and sand destination in the accepted sense but is still blessed with a wide range of beaches concentrated mainly in the north and east. Maracas, a short scenic drive from the capital Port of Spain, is the great traditional weekend liming spot for locals and visitors alike, and nearby Las Cuevas and Blanchisseuse also have attractive stretches popular with locals.
 
Further along the north coast, beaches are wild and barely accessible but in the north east Grande Riviere is the one authentic beach holiday location, globally famed as a nesting ground for the giant leatherback turtle, while Toco and environs has a burgeoning surf scene.
 
Mayaro and Manzanilla on the east coast have miles of remote palm backed beach lands, a real Robinson Crusoe ambience, but sometimes dangerous undertow and rip currents.
