Water-based Sports are generally limited in Trinidad owing to the lack of beach culture but kayaking is possible on the north coast at the Yara and Marianne rivers, in the Nariva Swamp with specialist guides and at Williams Bay in Chaguaramas where equipment can be rented.

Surfing

Surfing’s profile is increasing on the north coast over the November-March period (see Beaches section also) with decent swells possible at Sans Souci, Grande Riviere, Las Cuevas, Roughside and Salybia. The Carib Caribbean Challenge Cup is normally staged at Sans Souci in March.

Sports Fishing

Sport Fishing is a perennial activity although at its best from December-April, mainly based at Chaguaramas and around the offshore islands.

Windsurfing and Kitesurfing

Chaguaramas, the west coast at Bayshore, Westmoorings and Los Iros beach on the south coast are the prime windsurfing spots while kitesurfing defines niche sports. There is a small band of enthusiasts at Mayaro, Moruga and Los Iros beaches where onshore winds, ideally above 14 knots, and the absence of underwater rocks and shoals are the prerequisites.
