The first time food and travel writer Fiona Dunlop went to the Dominican Republic she drove herself around the country for three weeks, exploring every corner. Her experience can be in contrast to package holidaymakers, sometimes discouraged from leaving their all-inclusive property, except on an organised tour.
For those visitors who want to explore the Dom Rep under their own steam, Fiona is heading back there on three different trips, each three weeks long, to put together a detailed guide for Definitive Caribbean. It will be indispensible whether you want to relax at a beach resort or go zip-lining in Puerto Plata.
Fiona says: “Areas I’m looking forward to revisiting are the Samana Peninsula, the South West which was very beautiful, and I want to see how eco-tourism has developed.” As well as providing independent reviews of a wide range of properties, she’ll be researching areas of local culture such as food and handicrafts.
