Giving something back…

The Caribbean often gives its visitors enormous pleasure, both because of its exquisite tropical setting and because of the islanders themselves, who in most cases are delightful and easy-going. But life on the islands is by no means easy. At DefinitiveCaribbean, having come to love the place over the years, we have the opportunity to give something back.

Beyond the largely beach-bound screen of the tourist industry -- the sophisticated hotels, villas and restaurants – the Caribbean islands are quite simple and in most cases quite poor. The West Indians’ often easy-going nature belies the struggle that many of them face. The infrastructure may not often be good, and in island countries with difficult economies there is little money to spend on medicines, schools and facilities for children. Like everywhere else, communities with no voice often end up disadvantaged.

We have selected a number of charities around the islands, many of which work to assist underprivileged children. Two percent of our annual turnover is donated to these charities, and many of our featured companies and tour operators have elected to donate 1% of anything you spend with them to the charity selected for the destination you choose. The wonderful thing is that in small islands it is really possible to make a difference. See a list of the charities that we support by island below.

NEW...Throughout the year we are teaming up with some of our selected partners to offer entrants into our prize draw the chance to win a week's break at some of the most charming Caribbean hotels and resorts that we have reviewed on Definitive Caribbean. Each prize draw benefits one of the Caribbean Charities supported by our initiative, The Definitive Caribbean Charity Support Scheme.
