Saba / Bars/Nightlife
Saba may be a small, quiet island but it is too full of characters to be dull. Its bars always seem to have local customers with a keen eye for happy hours, while the waves of divers, hikers and American medical students passing through add vital energy. Windwardside is where the action is and Friday night the liveliest, plus some additional skirmishing on Saturday. During the rest of the week the only sound of partying comes from the tree frogs.
The best bars on Saba are:
Guido's, Windwardside - Sometimes featuring guest DJs from other islands, this combined pizza place and unadorned nightspot plays a little bit of everything. Go early and play pool or go late and dance.
Red Rock Café, Windwardside - This small wooden bar has a pleasant terrace at the back that's a good spot to sink a cool Presidente beer while enjoying the views and jangley sounds of the Dominican Republic.
Scout's Place, Windwardside - If you can cope with the naff pirate and nautical theming, this is a friendly place with a panoramic terrace and wifi. Friday is “Sabaoke” night when the whole island seems to turn out to sing and dance, for better or worse.
Tropics Café, Windwardside - A relaxed poolside café in Juliana's Hotel that holds a movie night every Friday (closed mid-July to mid-October).
