If there’s a style capital in the Caribbean, it could easily be St Barths. This is a sybaritic haven that oozes cool sophistication; a place to be seen in and a place where celebrities and A-listers float from cool bars to chic dining haunts. As you might expect, there are plenty of stylish venues to choose from, with several clustered around the pretty harbour of Gustavia which provides an idyllic backdrop. Whether you’re looking for a sophisticated wine bar on the waterfront from which to people-watch or a party-style bar with music and dancing, it’s all here.

Not surprisingly, given its strong Gallic heritage, St Barths is a gourmand’s dream with a huge array of restaurants that pride themselves on their exquisite fare, helped by fresh supplies flown in daily from France and the USA. Some of the best dining establishments can be found in some of St Barths’ most fashionable hotels. Diners can savour a huge range of different cuisines from Asian and Japanese to Creole and provincial French that are invariably served up in elegant surroundings. Prices may not be cheap, but there are more modest eateries that serve up a local flavour with good food and lower prices.

When it comes to drinks, St Barths does not produce its own rum, but is famous for adding its own distinctive flavour to imported brands with herbs and spices giving them a fruity, mellow taste.
