Tobago / Food & Drink
Tobago may be a small, sleepy island, but Tobagonians knows how to enjoy themselves and this is reflected in some of the bars and the weekly Sunday School street party that turns the town of Buccoo into a musical festival with eating, drinking and dancing galore. Other than this, much of the entertainment on Tobago is confined to the hotels which bring in local bands and organise special dinners. However, there are a few local haunts that stay open until late in the evening.
Tobago’s dining scene is better than one might expect and there are some charming restaurants in pretty surroundings that serve more imaginative and locally-influenced cuisine than on other islands. Some of the best eateries can be found on the western side of Tobago, but for a more local experience and flavour with traditional West Indian fare, head towards the east. While Tobago’s rum industry disappeared following the decline of its sugar trade, rums are imported from its sister island Trinidad.
