Recommended bars and nightclubs in Port of Spain, Trinidad include:
Zen, Keate Street - Near the Savannah, top of the range, smart set club over three floors, attracting a well heeled clientele and the socially aspirant; all inclusive premium drinks nights, stunning sound system and semi open air rooftop area; mixed music, soca, dancehall, hip hop and R&B, elegantly casual dress code.
Saborlatino (former Attic), Maraval - Old established upstairs hideaway venue in the Shoppes of Maraval complex. A favourite Venezuelan hangout owing to its twice weekly Latin nights and salsa dancing; intimate, unpretentious bar, lighting not high on its agenda.
The Crobar and Shakers Cocktail Bar, Woodbrooke - Two pub style venues, outside drinking areas and effervescent crowd not too far apart on the main drag of Ariapita Avenue in Woodbrook; popular after work on Friday nights, lots of music, “till when” closing times. Shakers also has an open air courtyard bar in the MovieTowne complex.
Smokey & Bunty, St James - An end of the night spot where anybody who is anybody, and lots who aren’t, will generally wash up at this congenial roadside joint in the early hours; crashing music, tables on the pavement, bedraggled street crazies, a place best experienced after a few too many. Best to go with a local or in a group.
More Vino, Woodbrook - As the name implies, a cool spot for the wine connoisseur, with a nicely done interior and shaded decking area outside; growing reputation as another meeting and eating place for the uptown crew.
Veni Mangé, Woodbrook - Unobtrusive and sometimes bypassed from the outside, a hip, much loved institution once within the upstairs portals; vibrant decor and artwork, a great lunchtime bar and Friday evening liming location, presided over by sisters Rosemary and Allyson, major characters in their own right.
51° Lounge, Cipriani Boulevard - Stylish, heavily thronged party club, mixed upmarket crowd, eclectic music with different themed nights, Saturday usually a Champagne evening; strict dress code keeps out the riff raff- though when Sir Mick Jagger turned up wearing jeans, rasta belt, sleeveless t-shirt and a wide smile he was admitted.
