British Virgin Islands / Getting Around
Sooner or later, when travelling around the BVIs, you’re going to need a boat. While it’s easy enough to grab a cab or hire a car on the main islands, the lure of exploring the other jewels in the sparkling Virgin Islands chain means that you will need to jump on one of the numerous ferry boats that ply the waters between the islands.
There is a good network of services covering the main islands in the BVIs, notably Tortola and Virgin Gorda, but also Jost Van Dyke and Anegada. Some are covered by the regular ferry service while others are run by hotels or private owners which can be hired out. The same also goes for the US Virgin Islands, with regular services to the main island of St Thomas, and some boats stopping at its smaller sister island St John enroute.
For more information about local transport on the British Virgin Islands, including recommended car rental companies, ferries and Island hopping options, please select a Getting Around BVI category below or from the side menu.
