Cayman Islands / Getting Around
It’s a good idea to hire a car for part or all of your stay on Grand Cayman. The roads are good, and people tend to drive carefully. The main hazard is that the majority of visitors come from the USA, and a significant number of them will hire a car having never driven on the left hand side of the road before. The advantage of having your own car is that you can take your time to explore the island which has much more variety to offer than a glance at the Caribbean map might suggest. Although Grand Cayman is only twenty-two miles long, and no more than eight miles wide the two ends of West Bay and the North Side seem much further apart in terms of atmosphere. Some locals think that Bodden Town in the east feels like another island altogether, especially compared to the tourist hot-spot of Seven Mile Beach.
On Cayman Brac a car is useful if you wish to explore the island thoroughly, though you could manage with a taxi for a day. On Little Cayman it is entirely possible to manage without a car if staying near Blossom Village. Bicycles are often available free of charge from the hotels.
