Dominica / Taxis
Officially licensed by the Government, but with no set rates as such, it’s important to discover the acceptable rate for specific journeys and then prepare to negotiate. And be sure to specify the dollar currency being quoted is US or EC. The Dominica Taxi Association (t 449 8533) can verify the correct rates.
If you’re young and bold enough, hitch-hiking is still a perfectly acceptable way of moving around the country and you’ll often see country folk waiting at road junctions so offer them a lift if you’re driving in their direction - however commonsense should prevail at all times, and pick your new passengers with caution. It’s often a very good way of gleaning local advice and information too.
Hotels will usually have their own service and there are other reliable outfits:
Airport Transfers & Island Tours, Roseau
Irvin's Taxi Service, Soufriere
Linton’s Taxi and Tours, Roseau
St Jean 24 Hour Taxi, Roseau
Max’s, Portsmouth
Colt’s Taxis, Pointe Michel
Maclean’s, Picard
