Saba / Getting Around

By Nigel Tisdall

Saba is crossed by one steep and winding main road that runs for 19 miles (31km) from the airport to the harbour. Hiring a car is a good idea but not essential. Some drivers are not comfortable with the island's narrow roads, and while there is no public transport available it is feasible to explore the island solely by using taxis, walking, and by hitchhiking – a safe and accepted practice here. Dive operators arrange transfers to and from the harbour, and hikers can join trails simply by walking from their accommodation. Food and drink can be delivered to your villa or cottage, but bear in mind that when dining out nearly all the restaurants are located in Windwardside - so if you are staying elsewhere having your own transport will be more convenient.

For more information about local transport on Saba, including recommended car rental companies, ferries and Island hopping options, please select a Getting Around Saba category below or from the side menu.
