Gumbs Car Rental is a small locally owned St Barts car rental business which has been in operation since 1974, the second longest on the island. Based in Colombier and with a booth at the airport, the family run company has a fleet of around 65 cars.

Based in Colombier, a local district in the northwest of the island (also site of their garage), Gumbs Car Rental is very much a family affair, with three sisters, their mother, brother (who works as the mechanic) and even brothers-in-law all part of the business. The Gumbs family has been in St Barths for many generations.
Interestingly they also offer some well priced apartments, at Auberge Terre Neuve, which they combine with car rental to create an even better rate. Given that St Barths is generally is so expensive, but that a car it is so useful when visiting the island, the combination makes the island suddenly more affordable. The apartments are fairly simple by St Barths' standards, but together the two make one of the best value packages available on the island.
Gumbs Car Rental’s main outlet is at the airport, so you can collect a car on arrival if you know the island. However, they will also deliver free of charge to your hotel, yacht or villa if you would prefer. Most visitors return their vehicles at the airport but again they would be happy to collect if you like. Office hours are from 8am - 6pm each day and you will be given the cell number of the duty manager in case of a problem after 6pm.
Gumbs carry mainly the jeeps that are so popular in St Barths, but they also have a number of the fashionable Smart Cars as well as a few regular sedans. Unlike most Caribbean islands there is no need to buy a special licence to drive in St Barths.
Reservations
Please note that at the height of the season around Christmas and New Year and February all the cars become booked up, so if you know you will want one you are advised to reserve it well in advance.
