St Martin/St Maarten / Taxis
There is a good taxi service on St Martin/St Maarten but many people find it expensive – for example the St Maarten Taxi Association sets a minimum fare of $7 while a journey from one end of the island to the other can cost as much as $40. Vehicles are not metered but there are set rates for travel between various zones with tariffs varying according to the number of passengers, quantity of luggage carried, and the time of day. You can ask hotels and restaurants to call you a taxi, and there are ranks at Princess Juliana International Airport, beside the port in Marigot, and at the eastern end of Front Street in Philipsburg.
