In Depth
The name B&G Jeep Rentals derives from Bronte and Gideon Olliveirre , who own and manage the company. They are from Bequia. Gideon has run the taxi business for many years, since the mid 1980s, but then, seeing an increase in the number of private homes on Bequia and the need for rental cars, they started the jeep rental business in 1998.
If Bequia is a small island, it is an extremely pretty one – and surprising in its variety – so it is definitely worth exploring. Hiring a car, for a couple of days at least, is the best way to get out to the beaches and sites by day and then to the restaurants in the evenings. Of course if you are staying in a villa or a private house, then a vehicle is almost essential. You will need to get your groceries and may well need a vehicle to get to the beach. A 4x4 can come in handy in Bequia because some roads are extremely steep and there are tracks to get to some of the remoter areas of the island. Finally, if you are hiring a car, Gideon can also help you get your local driving licence.
In addition to the jeep rental business, Gideon Ollivierre also runs a taxi service, Gideon Taxi (you can use the same email and phone number above), so on your arrival in Bequia he can collect you at the airport or ferry terminal and take you to your accommodation. He also takes island tours and so if you would like an orientation of the island he can show you around - though on an island the size of Bequia, everything melds into one pretty much, so you may find you get an impromptu island tour on the way to your accommodation anyway.
