Trinidad / Car Rental

Renting your own vehicle is a delightful way of exploring new places and Trinidad is no different, although with one important caveat - if your trip is confined to the capital Port of Spain then it’s probably wiser to engage local taxis, since the driving can be frenetic to say the least, and even more stressful for someone unfamiliar with the one-way systems and code of conduct on the roads. Country areas of the east and north-east coast are generally traffic free and the driving consequently less demanding, though it’s always important to stay alert.

All the major car rental companies have outlets in the Arrivals Hall at Piarco International airport. Prospective drivers must be at least 25 years of age, hold a valid driving licence and can expect to pay around US$50 per day for smaller economy vehicles (with unlimited mileage). Always book early during peak times like Carnival.
