Antigua and Barbuda / Getting There
Antigua is not difficult to reach by air. Its VC Bird International Airport, airport code ANU, has very good air links with both the UK and North America and is a major international and regional hub. As befitting its status, the airport is larger than those on some of the smaller islands. However an 18-month expansion and redevelopment project started in November 2011 and this will more than double the size of the existing facility with a new terminal. This former American military base, dating from the Second World War, is located on the north-eastern side of Antigua, approximately five miles from the capital St John’s and a 30-minute drive from English Harbour and hotels on the south coast. When it comes to other transport links, the only ferry services from Antigua are those that connect it with its sister island, Barbuda.
