Grenada & Carriacou / Flights
If you have difficulty finding a flight to Grenada, or there is no flight on the day you want to travel, then it is possible to fly via Barbados, a regional hub from where there are many flights each day, including evening flights that leave after the scheduled arrival of international services. If you are flying from North America it may be a more pleasant place to change planes anyway than San Juan. Turnarounds can be tight, however, if there is a delay on the international leg, so be prepared to abandon your luggage if necessary and carry a spare set of clothes and your swimming costume in your hand baggage.
Getting to Carriacou and Petite Martinique
The main routes are via Grenada, by plane or on one of the many ferries, which leave a couple of times each day from St George’s, see Island Hopping. The only scheduled flights between the islands are on SVG Air, which makes the run three times a day. Of course it is possible to sail or take ferries through the Grenadines. Carriacou is linked twice-weekly to Union Island.
The other option is to transit in Barbados and take one of the local airlines that offer “shared charter” flights direct to Carriacou. Try SVG Air or Mustique Airways. These flights are not scheduled and therefore not listed on international computer systems. Also be aware that no flights can land in Carriacou after dark, so if there are any delays with the international leg of your journey then you will probably end up over-nighting in Barbados.
For more details and schedules, please see Getting to Carriacou.
For those travelling on to Carriacou or Petite Martinique, there is also a ferry service. See more details on our Grenada Ferries Guide.
