Haiti / Getting There

Flights

After the earthquake and cholera outbreak in Haiti many airlines decided to fly elsewhere, which means there is now a very limited choice. The best way is to fly to another island in the French Caribbean and take a connecting flight with Air France or Air Caraibes. American airlines offer direct flights to PAP airport from New York, Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Copa Airlines fly from Panama to Port-au-Prince. For flights within Haiti and the Hispaniola peninsula, check with Tortug’Air and Salsa d’Haiti.

Overland

It is possible to reach Haiti overland via the Dominican Republic.

Passports/Visas

A valid Canadian passport is required for Canadians intending to visit Haiti. The passport should be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your expected return to Canada.

British citizens must be in possession of a valid ten year passport and return ticket.

As of January 8 2007, all US citizens visiting the Caribbean must be in possession of a valid US passport.

Haiti does not issue tourist visas for foreign visitors. It is however essential that travellers contact the nearest Haitian diplomatic mission to ensure visa requirements have not changed.

Tourist Information

Travel in Haiti is not simple and with a lack of ready information it may be useful to contact aid agencies for information on the country. The Tourism Secretariat may provide some help, otherwise hotel managers also make good contacts and are generally well informed.
