St Martin/St Maarten / Getting There
St Martin/St Maarten lies at the north-western tip of the Lesser Antilles island chain – its nearest neighbours are Anguilla, 5 miles (8 km) to the north, and St Barths, 15 miles (24 km) to the south-east. While the island is part Dutch and part French, with airports on both sides, it is the Princess Juliana International Airport on Dutch St Maarten that is the major transport hub – not just for the island itself, but the region too. This is due to its wide range of international flights that link into St Maarten’s network of local services through the region. On French St Martin, Aéroport l'Espérance Grand-Case is more of a local facility, primarily offering links to the other French Caribbean islands. There are also ferry services to nearby islands.
