Trinidad / Getting There

As the base for Caribbean Airlines and arrival point for many flights from Europe and the USA, Trinidad is not difficult to get to and its regular services to various countries in South and Central America make it a good jumping-off point for travellers wanting to explore the Latin continent. Depending on your departure point and budget, it may be prudent to consider entry into Tobago first, and then take one of the regular 20-minute flights to Port of Spain, run by Caribbean Airlines. Charter operators service Tobago and there is generally greater choice. Trinidad’s Piarco International Airport, airport code POS, is probably one of the best appointed airports in the Caribbean after large-scale refurbishment and development in 2001. Situated about 16 miles/25km south-east of the capital Port of Spain, it comprises an expansive new terminal with attractive departure lounge, arrivals hall, restaurants, duty-free, shops and security. Official airport taxis normally take you anywhere within the city for around US$35.

There are also regular ferries to Tobago.
