Trinidad / Regional Flights

By Sara Macefield

Trinidad is at the southern extreme of the main regional route network, so there are numerous flights each day that serve all the islands to the north. However, they are not necessarily in a logical sequence and it is often necessary to travel via Barbados or even Antigua to access countries nearby. Unlike most other Caribbean islands, Trinidad also has a wide choice of services to Latin America with flights to Venezuela, Guyana and Panama. Domestic services to sister island Tobago operate frequently with 12 services a day and there are regular ferry services too

Regional airlines include:

LIAT – based on Antigua with flights across the Caribbean

Caribbean Airlines – the revamped BWIA (owned by the Trinidad & Tobago Government), purchased Air Jamaica in May 2010 and have regular direct flights.

REDjet – from Barbados, Guyana and Jamaica (Kingston). STOP PRESS: As of 16 March 2012 REDjet has suspended all flights until further notice.

South America - Scheduled flights from South America are operated by Conviasa, five times per week from Isla Margarita, Venezuela. Aeropostal has three flights weekly from Caracas. Surinam Airways, three flights from Paramaribo weekly. Caribbean Airlines also have four flights daily from Georgetown, Guyana. Copa Airlines has daily direct flights from Panama, facilitating travel from Central America and western USA.

Domestic flights:

Trinidad is only a 20-minute flight from Tobago. Domestic services between the two islands are fairly frequent with Caribbean Airlines, which operates around 12 return flights a day between 6am and 9pm, cost TT$300 (US$50) return.
