Passports & Visas
Canada
Visitors from Canada taking a trip to Bermuda will need to be in possession of a valid Canadian Passport, Birth Certificate or certified copy, or for people born outside Canada, a Canadian Certificate of Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card.

US
Since January 2007, all visitors travelling by air between the US and Bermuda are required to present a valid passport to enter or re-enter the United States.

UK
Visitors from the UK must carry a valid British passport. British passport holders do not require a visa but accommodation must be booked prior to arrival. The usual length of stay permitted is 21 days and this can be extended by applying to the Department of Immigration before the end of the 21 days.

Service Charge/Tipping
Most hotels and restaurants add a service charge to the bill, so check whether this is the case before leaving an additional tip.

If a service charge is not a part of the bill, 15% is the standard for gratuities in restaurants, hotels, and bars. Helpful taxi drivers will appreciate 10 to 15% of the charge.

Telephone
The international access code for Bermuda is +1 441 which is followed by a seven digit local number. When dialling within the island, just use the seven digits. The outgoing code is 011 followed by the relevant country code (for example 01144 for the United Kingdom).

Public pay phones are located throughout Bermuda and many accept both US and Bermudian coins. A mobile network operates on an AMPS-TDMA network so mobile phones will work if you have roaming enabled. Internet access is available in many of the hotels and there are internet cafes.

Time Zone
Bermuda is in the Atlantic Standard Time Zone, which is one hour ahead of the eastern seaboard of the USA. It is four hours behind GMT (Britain in winter) and five behind mainland Europe.

Unlike the Caribbean and Bahamian islands, which are quite a way to the south of Bermuda, the island does observe daylight saving time. Consequently it is always an hour ahead of the US eastern seaboard.
