Bahamas / Medical
Medical facilities are good in Nassau and Freeport, but they are expensive and usually require a cash payment on treatment. Medical insurance is definitely advised.
Princess Margaret Hospital, Nassau, t 322 2861
Rand Memorial Hospital, Freeport, t 352 6735
The Lyford Cay Hospital, New Providence, t 362 4400, has a hyperbaric chamber for treatment of decompression illness.
There are no mandatory vaccinations for entering the Bahamas. Hepatitis A immunisation is recommended and a yellow fever vaccination is required if you are arriving from an infected area. There have been recent malaria outbreaks and travellers should take precautions before arrival. Water is considered safe.
