Dominica / Security
Dominica has one of the most stable social systems in the entire region and crime is negligible though it’s sensible to take all the usual precautions as a newcomer - locking doors, windows and car in the evening for example, and never walk on beaches at night alone. There is none of the street hassle associated with some islands, though things can get more frantic when cruise ship passengers disembark on the Roseau waterfront. The capital’s faded fabric can be daunting at night but even here there is probably no need for concern during a short stroll from any hotel. The general demeanour of Dominicans is warm and welcoming.
