Montserrat / Currency/Credit Cards

By Nigel Tisdall

The official currency on Montserrat is the East Caribbean dollar (EC$, which is fixed to the US dollar at EC$2.65 = US$1) and it is best to use this to pay for drinks, meals, taxis and shopping. US dollars are also accepted if necessary, while credit cards are only taken by the major accommodation providers. Note that dive operators and other establishments may impose a 5% charge to pay by credit card.
