Deana Bellamy

There remains something of a misconception about the Caribbean, that old chestnut, that if you have been to one island you have been to them all. Or the other notion of individual islands being one-dimensional. Of course it's not true, there is so much more to the Caribbean than simply sun, sand and sea and to be involved in a platform like Definitive Caribbean, from which I can help dispel these myths, is very heartening.quote_close

My Caribbean favourites

A few of my favourite Caribbean experiences:

The 'alternative' Barbados - driving down winding roads through farmland, fields of sugar cane, bananas and tropical greenery.  The intoxicating smell of the ocean on the East Coast - a mix of warm, yet fresh briny air that does not exist on the West Coast.  Truly liberating...

Memories of driving solo around Jamaica - magical Frenchman's Cove, the best jerk stands ever in Boston, the blue of the water at the Blue Lagoon, the rural landscape around Good Hope plantation, and Negril's stunning stretch of sand.

Island hopping around the Grenadines and experiencing aerial views which still leave me breathless, watching sunrise on PSV, seeing Mustique on horseback, eating fresh grilled lobster at Basil's Bar, 'being' on super chilled Bequia, snorkelling the Tobago Cays. They all fit into my book of the 'must have' experiences.
