By Sara Macefield

Traces of Anguilla’s first inhabitants, the Arawaks, can still be seen at two cave sites: Big Springs at Island Harbour and The Fountain cavern at Shoal Bay, said to be the Eastern Caribbean’s most intact ceremonial site from this period with petroglyphs, offering bowls and a stalagmite carved in the likeness of Arawak deity, Jocahu.

Anguilla National Trust Heritage Tour - this is a guided tour starting in The Valley and leading to East End, taking visitors through Old Valley, Fort Hill, the East End Pond Conservation Area and Amerindian ceremonial sites, including Big Springs. The tour runs Monday to Friday and costs $25 per person.
