Aruba / Special Interests
Part of what used to be known as the ABC Islands and one of the most southerly in the Caribbean, the Dutch island of Aruba is mostly flat and arid but it does benefit from excellent scuba diving, good windsurfing and sailing. On land, it’s a great place to go horse-riding or play golf. Take a guided hiking tour in the Arikok National Park which takes up almost one fifth of Aruba’s landmass, to spot indigenous flora and fauna as well as historical caves with ancient Indian paintings. If you like spotting historical architecture, head to the capital Oranjestad, where there’s the unusual sight of Dutch architecture in the Caribbean or party on down with the locals on a Thursday night in San Nicolas.
