Regattas in Barbados include the following:
Mount Gay Rum Barbados Regatta - Organised by the Barbados Sailing Association and held in late May/early June each year, it is Barbados’s premier sailing event. Held at Carlisle Bay, St Michael, the regatta prides itself on being close to the true spirit of sailing, though it is also known for its parties and other fun events.
Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados Race - Held on January 21 each year, this one-day race is billed as Barbados’s “ultimate sailing challenge” and dates from the 19th century when schooner captains used to battle to be first to the island. The race starts at the Barbados Cruising Club, Carlisle Bay, and the yachts follow a 60-mile course around Barbados. The vessels aim to set the fastest time around the island and those that break the record win the skipper’s weight in Mount Gay Rum Extra Old.
Barbados International J/24 Open Championship - Regattas involving the J/24, claimed to be the world’s most popular one-design keel boat, are held from May to June off the west and south coasts, though the central venue is the Barbados Yacht Club.
