Barbados / Special Interests / Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi other

By Deana Bellamy , James Henderson

There are very good opportunities for holistic activities on Barbados, but they are generally designed to serve the local and resident communities as opposed to visitors. Pilates, yoga and Tai Chi are available at a few of the hotels - Sandy Lane being a notable example - and there are also a few complementary health practitioners who will visit your hotel or villa.

Red Zen Pilates Studio, Christ Church - Popular studio opened in January 2010 and run by qualified classical/power Pilates instructor, Rachael Rezende. Current group schedule: Mon, 9am, 10am, 5pm, 6pm and 7pm. Tue, 9am, 10am and 6pm. Wed, 9am, 10am, 6pm and 7pm. Thu, 8am, 9am, 10am, 5pm, 6pm and 7pm. Fri, 9am and 10am. Sat, 9am teenage mat class and 10am regular class. All classes by appointment only, private and semi-private sessions available - including visits to villas for private sessions.

Surfside Wellness Centre, St Michael - Large, modern gym formerly located at Needham’s Point. Fitness programmes and wellness packages. Group exercise schedule includes super circuit, cardio, turning circles, step and rep Reebok, boxercise and bootcamp. The Fusion Studio runs SOTT Pilates, Pilates, Tai Chi and yoga classes. Open Mon-Fri from 5am-10pm, Sat from 6am-6pm and Sun from 8am-12pm.

If you would like Reiki, try:

Reiki School of Natural Healing - Run by Reiki Master, Verity Dawson, who will also teach Reiki in private classes if there are a few of you and you set it up before your arrival. Services include: Reiki - treatments and courses. Feng Shui - personal and business consultations, and courses. Life Skills - personal growth workshops, one-on-one consultations, life coaching and meditation.

Janet Cools - Massage and reflexology which generally also includes 15 minutes of Reiki.

Trevor Davis - A therapist that looks at the whole person and has wonderful healing hands. Reiki and Lomé Lomé (Hawaiian massage).
