British Virgin Islands / Special Interests / Sailing & Regattas
The sailing in the BVIs is some of the best in the world. The islands are supremely beautiful for one thing, but the real advantages are that they are relatively close to one another; there are constant winds; and the islands are well protected from the worst of the Atlantic weather. There are isolated coves and plenty of deserted sandbars where you can just jump overboard and swim ashore. On top of this, when you are looking at entertainment, the BVI does it better than its Caribbean neighbours with more sail-up beach bars than anywhere else.
The islands are also known for the numerous races and regattas held during the year, catering for more serious sailors or yachtsmen looking for a fun occasion. The gentle conditions also provide an ideal outdoor classroom for novice sailors wanting to learn the ropes, so it’s no wonder that a number of sailing schools are based here. Even those just wanting to dip a toe in the water can take their pick from a fabulous choice of day trips around the islands.
