Caribbean Hiking & Walking

Increasingly popular in several destinations as the environmental awareness movement gains traction, self powered travel is the ultimate way to go - and arguably the most enriching. Every country has graded walks to suit various capabilities and usually a flagship trip like Petit Piton in St. Lucia, Blue Mountain Peak in Jamaica, the Boiling Lake in Dominica but less rugged landscapes in Antigua, St.Kitts, Barbados and the Grenadines afford equally good walking in less demanding conditions.

Walking complements an appreciation of nature in its many guises and can bolster physical and spiritual wellbeing; knowing your limits and a good local guide are the key to deriving maximum enjoyment in the Caribbean. Trained guides are the best company too, especially on trips into island hinterlands when knowledge of micro-climates and weather patterns are allied to safety. Water is the other essential, even in rainforest on relatively easy walks, with sensible footwear an obvious given.
