Caribbean

By Sara Macefield

With its emphasis on more hedonistic pleasures, the Caribbean doesn’t naturally spring to mind as a working environment.

However, several islands – and particularly the larger ones – are equipped with a good range of meeting venues including stand-alone conference centres equipped with the latest state-of-the-art communications and multi-media facilities.

Hotels across virtually all the islands have meeting rooms that can accommodate events for a few delegates to gatherings of 2,000-3,000 at some of the larger casino resorts in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Aruba or Trinidad – islands which also have their own conference centres.

Some of the biggest and most modern facilities are also located in Barbados, Martinique, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.

The key to business success on these islands is the range of business hotels and modern infrastructure that can cater for the needs of business travellers and conference delegates.

However, the Caribbean’s smaller and more intimate boutique hotels can also provide an ideal setting for company retreats or seminars, especially for groups wanting to take over an entire property.

The plethora of direct flights from the USA, UK and Europe also make the Caribbean easy to get to for business travellers flying in from different directions.

And as an incentive destination, the islands are hard to beat with their tropical surroundings and varied menu of activities, sports and interests.
