High temperatures make Cayman something of a challenge for serious walking enthusiasts. Sun hats, sun cream and plenty of water are advised on any walks. Relatively short walks along the Mastic Trail on Grand Cayman, or on the marked routes through the Cayman Brac Parrot Reserve offer the best opportunities for an up close look at the islands interesting plants and birds. On Grand, the two mile stretch known as the Mastic Trail is best walked with a local guide (arranged through the National Trust for Cayman - t. 345 749 1124) who can point out the endemic plants and wildlife including the rare banana orchid or the famous Cayman Parrot.

On the Brac there are several marked trails that cross the island. On the southern side of the island towards the east end it is possible to do a two hour (out and back) beach walk to First Cay (a large rock) which offers sightings of frigate birds and tropic birds from January to August. The National Trust Parrot Reserve features an easy nature trail (off Bight Road south) through endemic woodland which cuts across the island to a set of steps descending the bluff on the north side. Panoramic views from the east end of the island can be seen by taking the lighthouse path from Peter’s Road car park  through the shrubland where nesting brown boobies and other seabirds can be easily seen. Free tours are conducted by Keino Daley, a very knowledgeable guide to the Brac – on a first come first served basis, so long as you provide the transport.

There are no designated walking trails on Little Cayman.
