Cayman Islands / Special Interests / Solo Travel
The Cayman Islands pose no particular difficulties for single travellers, and the generally low level of crime means it remains a safe destination. Many of the resorts and smaller hotels are ideal for spending time alone with a good book. The larger resorts tend, of necessity, to be heavily populated with family groups, and couples and it is worth considering whether one is the type of solo traveller who enjoys being surrounded by the hustle and bustle of such environments, or would feel more comfortable in a quieter setting.
However, scuba diving – which remains one of Cayman’s major attractions – often attracts solo travellers, and dive-boats make for sociable outings in the company of others where the singleton will not stand out. It’s worth bearing in mind that diving resorts are an easy going environment where the shared love of the marine world creates an immediate bond between residents, a kind of self-selecting camaraderie which cuts through much of the awkwardness that a solo traveller might feel in other environments.
